GranTops is involved in a much greater mission than just fabricating countertops. Taking into considerations its Brazilian root, GranTops non-profit U.S. Foundation, MissionServ and its counterpart in Brazil “Volunteer Brazil”, sponsors 8 – 10 medical missions to Brazil every year, to operate on children and adults alike for free, in the areas of plastic surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT and general surgeries in their own medical clinic called Haroldo Julio Seidl Health Center, located in the city of Codo, Maranhão, Brazil.
Since the beginning of the company back in 1999, there was always a great interest and involvement by the family to give back to their homeland, as well as provide support to the communities where the granite quarries are located in Brazil. This effort translated in action with the Foundation, which provides logistical support to US-based medical groups to travel to Brazil for 1 – 2 weeks to volunteer their knowledge, experience and medical services. There has been more than 85 such missions since 1999, having operated more than 4,000 children and treated over 40,000 patients, completely free of charge (www.fundamed.org).
In 2006, GranTops has inaugurated the Haroldo Julio Seidl Community Center, located in the city of Aquiraz, Ceara, Brazil. The main purpose for the Community Center is to provide medical and dental care, English and computer lessons teaching and training, and to serve as the base for international volunteers that are scheduled to provide volunteer work starting January 2007. WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS! More information call carina at 301 748-4571 or visit: www.volunteerbrazil.org/, Visit our http://www.fotolog.terra.com.br/center
